DMI and NASA, one step closer to launching rHEALTH-based space medicine.

Following its success in the Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE, the DNA Medicine Institute has expanded its ongoing collaboration with NASA to develop next-generation in-space medical diagnostics. Under a new procurement to support scientific utilization of the International Space Station, DMI will advance its rHEALTH X platform for astronaut crew member use.

The rHEALTH X system is engineered specifically for the demands of long-duration spaceflight, where rapid, autonomous health assessment is essential. The device enables astronauts to perform routine and mission-critical diagnostics independently — a critical capability for future missions to the Moon, asteroids, and Mars.

The Cambridge-based team has now been awarded a Phase II follow-on contract, further validating the platform’s performance and readiness. This milestone brings the rHEALTH X device one step closer to full deployment in orbit, accelerating NASA’s ability to support medical decision-making directly aboard spacecraft and remote exploration habitats.
