rHEALTH Technology Issued Three New Patents

rHEALTH LLC announced the issuance of three new U.S. patents for innovations in biochemistry and small-volume sample collection, filed by DNA Medicine Institute (DMI). These advances significantly enhance the analytic capabilities and sophistication of the rHEALTH diagnostic platform, representing the miniaturization and automation of traditional laboratory testing for point-of-care applications.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted the following patents:

  • D785,781, “Sample Consumable” – a design that enables micro-volume sampling through capillary action.

  • 9,568,425, “Multicoded Analytical Nanostrips” – covering multifunctional coded nanostrips for enhanced clinical analysis.

  • 9,617,383, “PEG-based Microparticles” – covering the synthesis of monodisperse PEG-based microparticles with stable coupling chemistries.

Building on the previously issued spiral vortex micro-mixer technology (US Patent No. 9,194,780), the sample consumable design demonstrates how rHEALTH leverages engineering ingenuity and fluid dynamics to simplify micro-volume sample collection and processing.

“With continued support from NASA, we are excited to offer solutions that push traditional barriers,” said Dr. Eugene Y. Chan, Founder and CEO. “Our technology enables massive multiplexing in small-volume samples while supporting measurement of diverse assay types.”

Multicoded nanostrips simplify assay performance and enhance the analytic capacity of rHEALTH devices. PEG-based microparticles, with their chemical stability and low autofluorescence, improve device sensitivity and extend sample preparation windows. When combined with rHEALTH’s flow-cytometry-based diagnostic platform, these innovations expand the capabilities traditionally expected from a point-of-care testing unit.

These patents strengthen the intellectual property portfolio of DMI and rHEALTH, reaffirming their strategic commitment to advancing portable diagnostics and monitoring technologies for better patient care.
